‘The 33’ film was based on the real-life event, when a gold and copper mine collapses, it traps 33 miners underground for 69 days. (c) IMDb
It stars Antonio Banderas, Rodrigo Santory, Juliette Binoche, Lou Diamond Phillips and more. The biopic drama was a good way of telling the miraculous story of survival, faith, trust and hope. It ran for two hours & seven minutes and it also gave me mixed reactions and emotions regarding the flick.
Although it is necessary to carefully tell the story and manage character development, I felt the movie was lengthy which made the pacing slow and somehow became a bit boring… almost a snooze fest. There were many scenes that aren’t necessary and most of the characters became forgettable because of less character development. This movie could have made a big impact if they shot this entirely in Spanish and dubbed in English. I feel that they can better portray their characters and deliver the lines with more feelings and emotions if they spoke in Spanish since hearing them exchanging lines in English felt awkward and trying hard even though they are fluent English speakers (no doubt about it). The cinematography was done well though there were scenes wherein the effects were still obvious especially the collapse scenes. The score was weird and didn’t fit into the movie except for those thrilling parts.
All in all, the movie was decent and will give it 2.7 out of 5 for giving me teary eyes because of their message of encouragement and strength in facing trials.
